Jim Rand is a restaurant industry powerhouse. As the vice president of catering for P.F. Chang’s, Rand as been working for more than a year to develop the company’s catering, takeout and delivery program.
Rand understands the nuances of off-premise. For nearly eight years he worked to build the catering program for Panera Bread. That, coupled with his extensive restaurant-industry knowledge and expertise, makes him a venerable force when it comes to building incremental sales.
Rand started his restaurant-management career at Au Bon Pain and from there went to work for Metromedia Restaurant Group, a firm that once operated more than 800 corporate- and franchise-owned brands such as Steak and Ale, Ponderosa and Bennigan’s. It was during his tenure there that Rand learned about franchise systems. That led him to Panera Bread in 2000 where he was an operating partner with a franchise group that owned 27 locations.
As the operating partner, Rand developed a catering strategy designed to build incremental sales. The program was such a success that when the franchise group sold their units to Panera Bread corporate, Rand was asked to join the corporate office to develop the company’s overall catering strategy.
